Wow. That is so tragic. He was living in a remote part of Montana the last time I heard from him. Cut Bank or somewhere in that area. I'm sorry he won't be at our reunion. I'd like to have seen him.
I spoke with Neil's sister, Anna, to find out about Neil's life.
Neil passed away in 2012 from cancer.
Neil served in the Navy for one tour of duty after high school and then entered the U.S. Customs Service. He worked into an undercover position and travelled widely. His time was interesting and colorful as we might imagine. Many details of his life are unknown. He had to be extracted several times from places he was working because of the danger and sensitive nature of the work. Keeping in touch with family and friends was incompatible with his own security.
There are very few pictures post high school and Neil chose to live far from Missoula.
He lived for a while in Key West, Florida and worked in the Bahamas among many other places. The latter part of his career was in Miami, working at the Miami International Airport. It was there when cancer struck. He suffered a brain aneurism and died shortly after that.
In 1990 Neil married and he has stepchildren from that marriage.
