Gayle Evans

 


SALEM, Ore. - Gayle Evans Schack passed away on Jan. 27, 2011, in Salem, Ore., from complications of multiple sclerosis.

She was born on Nov. 22, 1949, in Spokane to Don and Joyce Evans, of Missoula.

She graduated from Hellgate High School in 1968. She participated in many things in high school and attended Girls State. She graduated from the University of Montana in 1972, with a BA in fine arts and education. She was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority.

After a tour of Europe, she taught in Glasgow and Browning. In 1977, she got a master's degree in art education from the University of Oregon. She taught K-8 in Missoula for one year and then went back to Oregon where she taught at Junction City, Ore., for two years.

She married Richard Schack in February 1981. Their daughter, Karla, was born in 1983. Gayle so enjoyed all of Karla's activities in grade school, high school and college.

She was a very good artist and the family treasures her paintings. She handled her severe case of MS with grace and courage. She was much loved and admired. by all who knew her. She had many loyal friends and caregivers.

She was preceded in death by her father Don Evans.

She is survived by her beloved daughter Karla and her husband Kevin Tomanka of Portland, Ore.; her mother Joyce Evans of Missoula; brother Bob and wife Beverly of Seeley Lake; sister Kathy Hannahs and husband David of Parkman, Wyo.; brother Michael and wife Beth of Pavillion, Wyo.; and many nieces and nephews.
